Thefollowingactionscoulddamagethefingerprintreaderorcauseitnottoworkproperly:
•Scratchingthesurfaceofthereaderwithahard,pointedobject.
•Scrapingthesurfaceofthereaderwithyourfingernailoranythinghard.
•Usingortouchingthereaderwithadirtyfinger.
Ifyounoticeanyofthefollowingconditions,gentlycleanthesurfaceofthereaderwithadry,soft,lint-free
cloth:
•Thesurfaceofthereaderisdirtyorstained.
•Thesurfaceofthereaderiswet.
•Thereaderoftenfailstoenrollorauthenticateyourfingerprint.
Ifyourfingerhasanyofthefollowingconditions,youmightnotbeabletoregisterorauthenticateit:
•Yourfingeriswrinkled.
•Yourfingerisrough,dry,orinjured.
•Yourfingerisverydry.
•Yourfingerisstainedwithdirt,mud,oroil.
•Thesurfaceofyourfingerisverydifferentfromwhenyouenrolledyourfingerprint.
•Yourfingeriswet.
•Afingerthathasnotbeenenrolledisused.
Toimprovethesituation,trythefollowing:
•Cleanorwipeyourhandstoremoveanyexcessdirtormoisturefromthefingers.
•Enrollanduseadifferentfingerforauthentication.
•Ifyourhandsaretoodry,applylotiontothem.
Noticeondeletingdatafromyourharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive
Ascomputersspreadintoeverycorneroflife,theyprocessmoreandmoreinformation.Thedataonyour
computer,someofwhichmightbesensitive,isstoredonaharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive.Beforeyou
disposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer,besuretodeletedatastoredonit.
Handingyourcomputerovertosomeoneelsewithoutdeletingtheloadedsoftware,suchasoperating
systemsandprogramsoftware,mightevenviolatelicenseagreements.Youareadvisedtocheckthe
termsandconditionsofthoselicenseagreements.
Therearemethodsthatseemtodeletethedata:
•Movethedatatotherecyclebin,andthenclickEmptyrecyclebin.
•UsetheDeleteoption.
•Formatyourharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•Usingtherecoveryprogramtobringtheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrivebacktothefactorydefault
settings.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangethefileallocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In
otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.The
dataisstillthere,eventhoughitseemstobelost.Thus,itissometimespossibletoreadthedatabyuseof
