TheADM(Administrative)templateledenespolicysettingsusedbyapplicationsontheclientcomputers.
Policiesarespecicsettingsthatgoverntheapplicationbehavior.Policysettingsalsodenewhetherthe
userwillbeallowedtosetspecicsettingsthroughtheapplication.
Settingsdenedbyanadministratorontheserveraredenedaspolicies.Settingsdenedbyauseronthe
clientcomputerforanapplicationaredenedaspreferences.AsdenedbyMicrosoft,policysettingstake
precedenceoverpreferences.
Forexample,ausermayputabackgroundimageonhisdesktop.Thisistheuser'spreferencesetting.An
administratormaydeneasettingontheserverthatdictatesthatausermustuseaspecicbackground
image.Theadministratorspolicysettingwilloverridethepreferencesetbytheuser.
WhenaThinkVantageTechnologyproductchecksforasetting,itwilllookforthesettinginthefollowing
order:
•Computerpolicies
•Userpolicies
•Defaultuserpolicies
•Computerpreferences
•Userpreferences
•Defaultuserpreferences
Asdescribedpreviously,computeranduserpoliciesaredenedbytheadministrator.Thesesettingscanbe
initializedthroughtheXMLcongurationleorthroughaGroupPolicyintheActiveDirectory.Computerand
userpreferencesaresetbytheuserontheclientcomputerthroughoptionsintheapplicationsinterface.
DefaultuserpreferencesareinitializedbytheXMLcongurationscript.Usersdonotchangethevalues
directly.Changesmadetothesesettingsbyauserwillbeupdatedintheuserpreferences.
CustomersnotusingActiveDirectorycancreateadefaultsetofpolicysettingstobedeployedtoclient
systems.AdministratorscanmodifyXMLcongurationscriptsandspecifythattheybeprocessedduring
theinstallationoftheproduct.
