•Dependingonthespecifictype,theEthernetcardmightlookdifferentfromtheillustrationsinthistopic.
•UseanydocumentationthatcomeswiththeEthernetcardandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditionto
theinstructionsinthistopic.
ToinstallanEthernetcard,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage87.
4.Removetherisercardassembly2andlayitupsidedownonaflat,clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.

Note:UsuallyEthernetcardsareinstalledontherisercardassembly2.AnEthernetcardalsocanbe
installedinanyPCIExpresscardslotthatsupportsit.See“Rearviewoftheserver”onpage29to
identifythePCIExpresscardslotsofyourserver.
5.LocateanappropriatePCIExpresscardslotforinstallingtheEthernetcardandthenremovethePCI
Expresscardslotbracketfromtherisercardassembly.Storethebracketincaseyoulaterremovethe
Ethernetcardandneedthebrackettocovertheplace.

6.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheEthernetcardtoanyunpaintedsurfaceonthe
outsideoftheserver.Then,taketheEthernetcardoutofthepackage.
Note:CarefullyhandletheEthernetcardbyitsedges.
7.IfyouwanttoinstallanEthernetcardintotheslotforalow-profilecard,youmightneedtoreplace
thefull-heightbracketfortheEthernetcardwiththelow-profilebracketcontainedintheEthernet
cardpackagebydoingthefollowing:
