Youcaninstallanewhot-swapharddiskdriveorreplaceafailinghot-swapharddiskdrivewithoutturning
offtheserver,whichhelpsyouavoidsignificantinterruptiontotheoperationofthesystem.
TheEMIintegrityandcoolingoftheserverareprotectedbyhavingalldrivebayscoveredoroccupied.The
numberoftheinstalledharddiskdrivesinyourservervariesdependingontheservermodel.Thevacant
baysareeithercoveredbyanEMI-protectivepaneloroccupiedbydummyhard-disk-drivetrays.Whenyou
installahot-swapharddiskdrive,savetheremoveddummyhard-disk-drivetrayincaseyoulaterremove
thehot-swapharddiskdriveandneedthedummytraytocovertheplace.
Attention:AnunoccupieddrivebaywithoutanyotherprotectionmightimpacttheEMIintegrityandcooling
oftheserver,whichmightresultinoverheatingorcomponentdamage.TomaintaintheEMIintegrityand
coolingoftheserver,installanewhot-swapharddiskdriveassoonasyouremovethefailingoneor
thedummytray.
Beforeyoubegin,reviewthefollowingharddiskdriveinstallationrules:
•Followtheorderofthehard-disk-drivebayswheninstallingaharddiskdrive.See“Frontviewofthe
server”onpage16
tolocatethehard-disk-drivebaysinyourserver.
•ForRAIDconfiguration,theharddiskdrivesmustbethesametypewiththesamecapacityiftheyare
withinasingleRAIDarray.Formoreinformation,see“ConfiguringRAID”onpage74.
•Forharddiskdriveswithdifferentcapacities,installtheharddiskdrivesfollowingtheorderofthe
hard-disk-drivebaysaswellastheorderfromthelowestcapacitytothehighestcapacity.
Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother
computerforreference.

thistopicandlocatetheappropriatehard-disk-drivebay.Then,pressthecircledarea2toopen
thehandleofthedummyhard-disk-drivetray.
•Ifyouarereplacingafailinghot-swapharddiskdrive,locatethefailingharddiskdriveandpress
thereleasebutton
1toopenthehandleoftheharddiskdrive.
