InstallingorremovingtheThinkServerTrustedPlatformModule
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstallorremovetheThinkServerTrustedPlatformModule
(hereinafterreferredtoastheTPM).
TheTPMisasecuritychipdesignedbytheTrustedComputingGroup(TCG)toprovideahardwaremethod
ofdataencryption.Itstorespasswords,encryptionkeys,anddigitalcerticatestohelpprovidesecurity
solutionsandprotectthecomputer.
InstallingtheThinkServerTrustedPlatformModule

onpageiiiand“Guidelines”onpage63.
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstalltheTPM.
Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother
computerforreference.
Notes:
•UseanydocumentationthatcomeswiththeTPMandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditiontothe
instructionsinthistopic.
•Dependingonthemodel,yourservermightlookslightlydifferentfromtheillustrationinthistopic.
ToinstalltheTPM,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage65.
4.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheTPMtoanyunpaintedsurfaceontheoutsideof
theserver.Then,taketheTPMoutofthepackage.
