1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnect
allpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage66.
4.Removethecoolingshroud.See“Removingthecoolingshroud”onpage69.
5.LocatetheBIOSrecoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardjumpers”onpage44.
Then,removeanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightimpedeyouraccesstothejumper.
6.MovetheBIOSrecoveryjumperfromthedefaultoffpositiontotheonposition.
7.Connecttheservertoanacpowersource.Theserverturnsonandthenturnsoffautomatically.
8.MovetheBIOSrecoveryjumperbacktotheoffposition.
9.Waitforseveralminutes.WhentheBIOSrecoveryprocessiscompleted,theserverturnson
automatically.
10.EnsurethattheSetupUtilityprogramstartsnormally.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”on
page51.Then,disconnecttheserverfromtheacpowersource.
11.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycables.Then,reinstalltheservercover.See“Completing
thepartsreplacement”onpage164.
12.Connecttheservertoanacpowersourceandturnontheserver.TheBIOSsettingsrecoverto
thefactorydefaultsettings.CheckandconfiguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecificneeds.See

AboutRAID
RAID,anacronymforRedundantArrayofIndependentDisks,isatechnologythatprovidesincreased
storagefunctionsandreliabilitythroughredundancy.Thisisachievedbycombiningmultipleharddiskdrives
intoalogicalunit,wheredataisdistributedacrossthedrivesinoneofseveralwayscalledRAIDlevels.
WhenagroupofindependentphysicalharddiskdrivesaresetuptouseRAIDtechnology,theyareina
RAIDarray.Thisarraydistributesdataacrossmultipleharddiskdrives,butthearrayappearstothehost
serverasonesinglestorageunit.CreatingandusingRAIDarraysprovideshighperformance,suchasthe
expeditedI/Operformance,becauseseveraldrivescanbeaccessedsimultaneously.
RAIDdrivegroupsalsoimprovedatastoragereliabilityandfaulttolerancecomparedwithsingle-drive
storagesystems.Datalossresultingfromadrivefailurecanbepreventedbyreconstructingmissingdata
fromtheremainingdrives.
