ConfiguringtheEthernetcontrollers
TheEthernetcontrollersareintegratedonthesystemboard.Theyprovideaninterfaceforconnectingto
a10Mbps,100Mbps,or1000Mbpsnetworkandprovidefull-duplex(FDX)capability,whichenables
simultaneoustransmissionandreceptionofdataonthenetwork.
YoudonothavetosetanyjumpersorconfiguretheEthernetcontrollers.However,youmustinstalladevice
drivertoenabletheoperatingsystemtorecognizethecontrollers.
TheThinkServerEasyStartupprogramsimplifiestheprocessofconfiguringRAIDandinstallingsupported
operatingsystemsanddevicedriversonyourserver.See“UsingtheThinkServerEasyStartupprogram”

Updatingthefirmware
ThefirmwareintheserverisperiodicallyupdatedandisavailablefordownloadontheLenovoWebsite.
Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetocheckforthelatest
leveloffirmware,suchastheBIOSupdatesanddevicedrivers.
Whenyoureplaceadeviceintheserver,youmighthavetoeitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestversionof
thefirmwarethatisstoredinmemoryonthedeviceorreflashtheBIOS,theTMMfirmware,andtheFRU/SDR.
UsingtheFirmwareUpdaterprogram
TheFirmwareUpdaterprogramenablesyoutomaintainyoursystemfirmwareup-to-dateandhelpsyou
avoidunnecessaryoutages.
ToupdateyoursystemfirmwareusingtheFirmwareUpdaterprogram,dothefollowing:
Note:Beforedistributingthefirmwareupdatestoaserver,ensurethatyourservercanrestartsuccessfully
withoutencounteringhardwareproblems.
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetolocatethe
FirmwareUpdaterprogram.
2.DownloadtheISOimagefortheFirmwareUpdaterprogramandtheTXTfilethatcontainsthe
instructions.
3.UseanyCDorDVDburningsoftwaretocreateabootablediscwiththeISOimage.
4.PrinttheTXTfileandfollowtheinstructionstousetheFirmwareUpdaterprogramtoupdateyour
systemfirmware.
UsingtheLenovoThinkServerEasyManageprogram
TheLenovoThinkServerEasyManageprogramenablesenterpriseuserstoremotelycontrolandmonitor
multipleLenovoserverswithinaLAN.Theprogramprovidesaninterfacetodisplayallseversbeing
managed,whichenablestheadministratortoconvenientlysearchfor,monitor,andmanageservers.
