Usingsystemprograms
Systemprogramsarethebasiclayerofsoftwarebuiltintoyourserver.SystemprogramsincludethePOST,
theUEFIcode,andtheSetupUtilityprogram.ThePOSTisasetoftestsandproceduresthatareperformed
eachtimeyouturnonyourserver.TheUEFIisalayerofsoftwarethattranslatesinstructionsfromother
layersofsoftwareintoelectricalsignalsthattheserverhardwarecanexecute.YoucanusetheSetupUtility
programtoviewandchangethecongurationandsetupofyourserver.
Yourserversystemboardhasamodulecalledelectricallyerasableprogrammableread-onlymemory
(EEPROM,alsoreferredtoasashmemory).YoucaneasilyupdatethePOST,theUEFI,andtheSetup
Utilityprogrambystartingyourserverwithaashupdatediscorrunningaspecialupdateprogramfrom
youroperatingsystem.
LenovomightmakechangesandenhancementstothePOSTandUEFI.Whenupdatesarereleased,they
areavailableasdownloadablelesontheLenovoWebsiteathttp://www.lenovo.com.Instructionsforusing
thePOST/UEFIupdatesareavailableinaTXTlethatisincludedwiththeupdateles.Formostmodels,
youcandownloadeitheranupdateprogramtocreateasystem-program-update(ash)discoranupdate
programthatcanberunfromtheoperatingsystem.
