•IfyouareusingaWindowsoperatingsystem,runtheThinkServerEasyStartupDVDthatcomeswith
yourserverandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentodownloadandinstalltherequiredEthernet
carddrivertotheserver.Formoreinformation,see“UsingtheThinkServerEasyStartupprogramona
Windowsoperatingsystem”onpage62
.
•IfyouareusingaLinuxoperatingsystem,runtheThinkServerEasyStartupDVDthatcomeswithyour
serveronacomputerwithaWindowsoperatingsystemanddownloadtherequiredEthernetcarddriver
toaremovablestoragedevice.Then,transfertheEthernetcarddriverfromtheremovablestoragedevice
toyourserverandrunthedriverfiletoinstallthedriver.

ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoremovetheEthernetcard.
Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother
computerforreference.

•UseanydocumentationthatcomeswiththeEthernetcardandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditionto
theinstructionsinthistopic.
•Dependingonthespecifictype,theEthernetcardmightlookdifferentfromtheillustrationinthistopic.
ToremovetheEthernetcard,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage75.
4.Removetherisercardassembly1andlayitupsidedownonaflat,clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.
