TheEMIintegrityandcoolingoftheserverareprotectedbyhavingalldrivebayscoveredoroccupied.The
numberoftheinstalledharddiskdrivesinyourservervariesdependingontheservermodel.Thevacant
baysareoccupiedbydummyhard-disk-drivetrays.Whenyouinstallahot-swapharddiskdrive,savethe
removeddummyhard-disk-drivetrayfromthedrivebayincaseyoulaterremovethehot-swapharddisk
driveandneedthedummytraytocovertheplace.
Attention:AnunoccupieddrivebaywithoutanyotherprotectionmightimpacttheEMIintegrityandcooling
oftheserver,whichmightresultinoverheatingorcomponentdamage.TomaintaintheEMIintegrityand
coolingoftheserver,installanewhot-swapharddiskdriveassoonasyouremovethefailingoneor
thedummytray.
Beforeyoubegin,reviewthefollowinghard-disk-driveinstallationrules:
•Followtheorderofthehard-disk-drivebayswheninstallingaharddiskdrive.See“Servercomponents”
onpage25
tolocatethehard-disk-drivebaysinyourserver.
•ForRAIDconfiguration,theharddiskdrivesmustbethesametypewiththesamecapacityiftheyare
withinasingleRAIDarray.Formoreinformation,see“ConfiguringRAID”onpage62.
•Forharddiskdriveswithdifferentcapacities,installtheharddiskdrivebyfollowingtheorderofthe
hard-disk-drivebaysaswellastheorderfromthelowestcapacitytothehighestcapacity.
Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother
computerforreference.
Notes:
•Dependingonthemodel,yourservermightcomewith3.5-inchhot-swapharddiskdrivesor2.5-inch
hot-swapharddiskdrives.Theillustrationsinthistopicarebasedonservermodelswith3.5-inch
hot-swapharddiskdrives.Forothermodels,thereplacementprocedureissimilar.
•Dependingonthemodel,yourservermightlookslightlydifferentfromtheillustrationsinthistopic.
•Useanydocumentationthatcomeswiththehot-swapharddiskdriveandfollowthoseinstructionsin
additiontotheinstructionsinthistopic.
