RecoveringfromaBIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhiletheBIOSisbeingupdated,yourservermightnotrestart
correctly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingproceduretorecoverfromtheBIOSupdatefailure.
Note:IftheoperatingsystemofyourserverisinstalledunderEFImode,youneedtoreinstalltheoperating
systemafterrecoveringtheBIOS.
TorecoverfromaBIOSupdatefailure,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/driversandfollowtheinstructionsontheWebpagetodownloadaBIOS
updatepackage.Then,puttheamiboot.romfilecontainedinthepackageintotherootdirectoryof
abootableUSBkey.
2.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
3.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
4.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage75.
5.LocatetheBIOSrecoveryswitchonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardjumpersandswitches”on
page42.Then,removeanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightimpedeyouraccesstothe
switch.
6.MovetheBIOSrecoveryswitchfromthedefaultoffpositiontotheonposition.
7.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycables.Then,reinstalltheservercover.See“Completingthe
partsreplacement”onpage170
.
8.ConnecttheservertoanacpowersourceandthenstarttheserverfromthebootableUSBkeythat
containstheamiboot.romfile.Therecoveryprocessstarts.Aftertherecoveryprocessiscompleted,
yourserverwillautomaticallyturnoff.
9.Repeatstep2throughstep5.
10.MovetheBIOSrecoveryswitchbacktotheoffposition.
