AdvancedRAID(hereinafterreferredtoastheTR500Key).
TheTR500KeyexpandsthecapabilityoftheThinkServerRAID500AdapterbyactivatingRAID5andRAID
50foradvancedSATA/SAShardwareRAID.YoucanpurchaseaTR500KeyfromLenovo.
InstallingtheTR500Key

ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstalltheTR500KeyonaThinkServerRAID500Adapterif
yourserverhasoneinstalled.
Attention:BackupyourdatabeforeyoubeginifyouwanttorecongureRAIDandreinstalltheoperating
systemafterinstallingtheTR500Key.
Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother
computerforreference.
Note:UseanydocumentationthatcomeswiththeTR500Keyandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditionto
theinstructionsinthistopic.
ToinstalltheTR500Key,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage73.
4.LocatetheThinkServerRAID500Adapter,whichisinstalledintheupperslotontherisercardassembly
1.See“Servercomponents”onpage30.
5.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheTR500Keytoanyunpaintedsurfaceonthe
outsideoftheserver.Then,taketheTR500Keyoutofthepackage.
